DI ANTONIO SPANEDDA

In 2024, Maestrini celebrated its 60th anniversary and, for this important occasion, chose to embrace art. In the spring, Rinascita Blu was created, a mural by artist Antonio Spanedda, paying homage to the beauty and power of water.

Spanning over 15 meters and divided into five scenes, the artwork is hand-painted on canvas and mounted on wooden frames. It traces the journey of water, from mountain springs to the oceans, passing through sacred and urban landscapes. Each scene celebrates the essential role of water for life and for our planet, weaving together natural and cultural elements in a message of sustainability.
Rinascita Blu reflects Maestrini’s commitment to a future where nature and industry can coexist harmoniously, inviting the community to safeguard this vital resource for generations to come.

The mountain and the Sacro Monte of Varallo

In the first scenario of “Blue Renaissance”, the water springs from the mountain symbolising the purity and the origin of life. The mountain represents the regenerating power of nature, a pristine place where everything begins, a powerful image of the natural cycle. The presence of the Sacro Monte, a sacred place in the Valsesian culture, adds a spiritual element to the cultural one. Water is here not only physical but also spiritual, that sense of protection and respect which has deep roots in the history and culture of the Valsesia region.

The path of water in the Po Valley

In the second scenario, the water continues its course in the Po Valley, agricultural and vital heart of the territory. The water flow is a symbol of fertility, connection and growth. In the distance you can see the profiles of two important cities, Novara and Turin, which represent the modernity and the interaction between nature and mankind. The contrast between the water, symbolising life and nature, and the urban skylines, evoking development and technology, reflects the continuous transformation and the necessary balance between environment and progress.

The Lake Monster

In the third scenario, named “The Lake Monster”, the symbolic figure of the Kraken, a legendary creature rooted in ancient mythologies, emerges. The Kraken represents more than just a sea monster: it embodies a universal archetype linked to themes of fear, mistery and transformation. The Kraken becomes a metaphor for modern anxieties regarding the ecological crisis and climate change, acting as a warning of the consequences of human interference with nature.

The breath of the sea

The Amerigo Vespucci ship, in the fourth scenario, symbolising tradition and mastery in navigation, represents knowledge and training which are essential values for Maestrini. The swordfish, with its meaning of nobility and protection, becomes guardian of the sea, while the gliding albatrosses embody the greatness and liberty of the sky and the sea. The island on the horizon symbolises a distant destination, a shelter, inviting us to reflect on the protection of uncontaminated areas. The island’s lighthouse represents the hope and a guide towards a sustainable future, while the whirlwind reminds us of human fragility coping with natural forces, underlining the importance of living in harmony with nature. Each element tells a story, evokes emotions and stimulates greater awareness of enviromental issues.

The wave of Renaissance

In the fifth and final scenario of Blue Renaissance, the symbolic images express deep concepts related to human transformation and interconnection. The Great Wave by Hokusai represents the change and the rebirth that follow distruction. Juxtaposed to the sunset, it evokes a transition phase, suggesting that after the storm there is always peace and regeneration. The ocean ship symbolises global interconnection, linking cultures and peoples, and highlighting the ocean as a bridge between different civilizations. The moon reflected on the ocean becomes a metaphor for the link between the universe and the individual, the immense and the personal, creating a deep connection between sky and water, macrocosm and microcosm. The Shanghai skyline, juxtaposed with the vast sea, creates a symbolic contrast between nature and urbanization, recalling the balance between the natural environment and human development. A symbol of migration and new opportunities, Shanghai represents the journey and the challenges to face to reach new horizons.
